Hello,

I'm experimenting a bit with Cosmos, trying to find the deflection in a tabletop/platform for a scissor lift.

I have made some split lines on the bottom that I'm using for supports (where the arms are connected). For now I'm assuming the load is uniform.

Am I going about this the right way? Do you have any tips?

Thank you in advance.

Hi,
yes, from how you're describing your problem, this should apply. You can model the table of the lift with shells, so the model is computationally very light.

Thank you for the quick response, I will continue down this path then.

I havn't been able to locate a formula for this type of shell calculation. Do you know of any? I would like to verify my results by hand calculations.

Hi,
doesn't Roark-Young "Formula for stresses and strains" ed.7 have a formula for flat plate supported at two edges?

Regards

Hi again,

Being from Scandinavia I don't have Roark, sorry. I believe it's mainly used in the US?

I do have formulas for a flat plate supported on two edges, but don't think they apply here. Perhaps I wasn't clear about how the part looks in my first post. Here is a picture of a scissor lift that has a tabletop very similar to the one I'm using:
