Can a dimension be created to make the circumference of a circle driven? For instance if I wanted to easily draw a circle that measures 20 inches around the circumference can I add a dimension that allows me to specify the 20 inches rather than me calculating the actual diameter or radius? Maybe I'm over analyzing this and missing something but I don't see how I can achieve this.

Add a construction line to your sketch and dimension to 20", then add an equation to the radius dimension.

You can get arc length by selecting endpont-endpoint-arc. I don't know how one could get circumference without endpoints, though.

What application requires a circumference dimension (why would diameter or radius not be sufficient)?

If your trying to use a given amount of material in this case as an example I used twenty feet and you simply without making calculations want to know the diameter it would create. I thought I had read somewhere that you could make the selection a certain way and this could be created but it may have been something else, I'm not positive.

Thank you everyone, I do believe that the picking both endpoints and then the arc is exactly what I had read about. This works exactly as I wanted by creating half a circle, then dimensioning it and mirroring it. I have never used equations in Solidworks, so I guess I could play with that and try it as well. Thanks again, this place is always so helpful.

Anna,
How are you able to copy and paste images directly into this thread? I thought you had to upload pictures to imageshack and hyperlink it here.

Thanks,

Colin
