Anyone attending the Structures Congress in Long Beach this week? This will be my first time, and I like to know what to expect. I'll be in the "Codes and Standards" track.

Am I going to learn anything that will help me design a better building? Or would I learn more watching an "Extreme Engineering" marathon on the Discovery Channel?

I will not be able to attend this year's event but don't often miss an opportunity to attend this conference.

You can expect to be inundated with material, that's the nature of the beast. What you're able to do with the material depends on what presentations you choose that correlate to your present work.

I find these events helpful to

1. Listen to project descriptions - lessons learned.
2. Talk with the speakers - get what you pay for!
3. Meet other SEs from other regions of the country.
4. Network on just about anything.
5. Check out the vendors; talk with the important ones like AISC, ACI etc.
6. Get PDHs.

I would not limit myself to a single track.
