I have been browsing Wikipedia. I am impressed at how much good stuff it has on electric power systems. The site might be worth referring people to that have basic questions on how power systems work.

Indeed.

I've looked at several EE topics there lately and not failed to be impressed. Their various power supply topics have been well done.

I agree 100%. I have been going to wki first for a wide variety of engineering topics (first stop before google). Usually gives some pretty good technical info which you can find by searching (pretty darned quick).\

I think they have a pretty good review process to make sure that garbage and incorrect info doens't make it in there. Wonder how long it will stay free?

One more great thing is that if the information you need isn't in the wiki article, chances are they can cross-reference you to another wiki article or a link (most articles have list of links at the end).

The links in wiki have been selected by someone knowledgeable in the topic based on their judgement that they contain relevant and useful on-line info.

In contrast, you often have to sort through a lot of garbage on google if you're looking for useful links.

Yeah speaking of which.. Google has gotten steadily worse for finding anything unless it's some standard consumer 'thing'.

Now most of my technical searches for anything result in the first 5 or 10 hits being two different patent scamming sites! I have no idea why Google thinks we want to see that every time or allows one or two sites to dominate unless they're allowing those sites to buy their way there, which would be pretty misleading.

Hi Keith.
You also puted attention on it.
For my pinion, this forum is best "google" for the EE topics.

I've also found Wikipedia to be a very useful source of info for various topics ranging from technical to comical. I have "heard", however (but I don't really KNOW anything about it), that Wikipedia doesn't really have a means to verify/confirm much of the info that is contained on the website. I'm curious what quality procedures/standards, etc.. (if any) that traditional encyclopedia type resources use as a means to be as accurate as possible when documenting information / history / etc...

Or does the truth always simply and only lie in the eye of the beholder?

I treat wikipedia like any other site I read on the web. I 'trust but verify'.
