does anyone know where i can find a ranking of the costs of the non- hexavalent chrome coatings that are used for fasteners. I found this very helpful posting with a table of the coatings ranked by corrosion resistance, but not cost. thread332-189454. can I assume that the least effective are the cheapest?

Yes, you can assume that the least effective are the least expensive.

The lowest performance on that chart is a simple zinc phosphate, with a relative cost of 1.

DELTATONE / DORRELTECH B17 14 µ would have a relative cost of 6.

Geomet is 7.

Zinc platings with TRIVALENT chromate conversion coatings have relative cost > 10.

So, the high-performing zinc-flake coatings are less expensive than the lower-performing zinc platings. Food for thought.

Cory
