Any suggestions for textbooks on hydrodynamics & fluid mechanics which covers the basics?

Thanks,
Mike

Fluids books I have on desk.

1) Mechanics of Fluids by BS Massey. A good general fluids book covering the basics. UK written.
2) Fkuid Mechanics by Frank White. Much of the same as Massey but US written.
3) Open Channel Hydraulics by VT Chow. An old but good reference for flow with a free surface.
4) Water Wave Mechanics for Engineers and Scientists by Dean and Dalrymple. A fairly theoretical book covering wave theories.

I have more at home, but cant remember the titles.

Learn the basics, understand the theory first. For a beginner to dabble in any software, be it Caesar II, Bos Fluids or any other which appears easy to get numbers from, invites disaster from the rubbish in-rubbish out department.

VT Mike ... Go to a good engineering school.

To add to Ussuri's list, another good book is, 'Fluid Mechanics for Engineering Technology' by Irving Granet (Prentice Hall). This mostly avoids calculus and gives excellent worked examples.

Just to add yet another, a book I often use for hydrodynamics is:

'Sea Loads on Ships and Offshore Structures' by O.M. Faltinsen.
