Hi,
Can anybody guide me, that as a Boiler manufacturer ("s" Stamp Holder), we subcontracted Steam drum ( As per ASME I) to other manufacturer!
Other manufacturer sent the built drum with "S" Part stamp and partial data report to us.
Now we found that, the Coupling on the stam drum require bigger size!
in this case how to handle this? As a boiler manufacturer
(has valid "S" certificate), can we replace this couplings by our self? If yes, do will have to documented this? Does Final MDR require remark about this?
Your prompt reply will be highly appriciated?
Thanks in advane

Yes, you can change the coupling but you must document this on a partial data report. Check with your AI for the necessary documentation requirements.

Hi Metengr,
Thanks for quick reply.
But i want to clarify that, we didn't built the drum and we bought it with Partial data report and "S" Part stamp!
SO we can not document this on a partial data report!
Now we as a boiler manufacturer has to replace couplings on that built steam drum!
In this case, can we change couplings on built steam drum, which bought with "S" stamp and partial data report?
If yes, How? Reference?
Your prompt reply will be highly appriciated!
Thanks

BPVN;
Check with your Authorized Inspector, since you also hold an ASME S stamp.

Yes, your AI/AIA can help you answer this question. Consulting your AI will ensure coordination with the applicable jurisdictional rules.
In my opinion, and I am sure alot of others have their opinions, there is more than one approach to satisfy this scenario. As long as there is a paper trail, and it meets jurisdictional and Code compliance, it should be a simple process.

FAQ731-376

Assuming that a holder of an A Certificate assembles the boiler, the A-Certificate holder can also perform the work as part of the assembly. Your company, as the Boiler Manufacturer, will use its S Certificate to stamp the drum and complete the P3 Form after completion of final hydrotest and signature of the A-Stamp holder and its AI.

If the drum has only a partial and NB No. and registration was not included or issued, yes you can work on the drum by geting AI authorization and issuing the proper documents.
The AI may or may not accept your request and you may have to send it back to the original stamp holder for repair.
