Hello All,
Over the course of the last two years I have customized my Inventor installation with a variety of keyboard shortcuts. All was well. However, today some of them have ceased to function. Even though the command alias is still present for the command, the command is not executed. This phenomena occurs with the standard default commands as well as those I created. I have shut down and re-started both Inventor and the computer to no avail. Any thoughts as to the cause of this?

One thing to check, when you hit the shortcut does it display down the bottom left of your screen? With up and down arrows and a description of the command? This would mean you have alias shortcuts that begin with the same letter. You can toggle through with up and down arrow or push space bar to select. Or just enter the full shortcut alias and it will automatically select.

If that isn't the problem, possibly a driver conflict. Do you have a space pilot or anything similar installed? Anything changed on your setup recently?

EngAddict,
Thanks for your reply. Yes the shortcut does display in the lower left. I must have a duplicate, and I did alter my setup. So I will have to search for a duplicate.

Just toggle up and down with the arrow keys and it will show you all the commands that share the same first letter.

I have tried what you suggested. But for example, if I enter 'M' for measure distance and cursor up and down with the arrow keys it shows 'M' and 'MI' only. So does this mean that you cannot use a combination of keystrokes that begin with the same letter? A similar occurrence is 'C' for constraint. The other listings are 'CH' and 'CO'. Incidently I did not create any of the shortcuts listed under 'C'

You can, just type MI and the command will work. But for measure you will need to enter M <space> to activate the command. It just means if you only type M, how does it know whether you are trying to type just M or MI.

I use C, CM and CB for centreline, centre mark and centreline bisector respectively. So to use the commands I would type either C <space>, CM or CB.

Alternatively you could use CM <up arrow> <space>, for example, but I find it slower.

Also what package of inventor are you using?

I have been using the space bar to select the command, although until last Monday I never had to. Never had an issue before, at least not this particular one. We are running 2010 right now. Our IT department has had 2011 since it was released and have not installed it. 2012 will probably arrive soon. Previous to this I had used SolidWorks for almost 10 years and Ideas for a few years before that. All in all Inventor is not so bad, there are a few features SolidWorks has that I am surprised that Inventor has not utilized. I just thank god that AutoDesk did not make the drafting module a direct copy of AutoCad. Thanks for your help.

Nothing has changed, this is the way the program is. Didn't you say you had changed your customization?

What features do you miss from solidworks? Most of the ones that are different are rarely used features. I use both programs and would be interested to know.

"I just thank god that AutoDesk did not make the drafting module a direct copy of AutoCad"

I don't understand.. they are different tools used for different work. They couldn't possibly make them the same. Are you referring to the DS rip off of AutoCAD called Draft Sight?

Sorry I couldn't answer your question.

Cheers,
EA
