Hello All,

Is weep hole in the reinforcement pad of the nozzle, lugs or attachments, an ASME SEC VIII mandatory requirement? or they are better to have by ASME? or not at ASME at all? I could not find a requirement in UG-36 or UW-16. If you know where to find it could you please let me know?

Thanks

hi Mecheng29,

I was just about to tell you to post a new thread since you posted this topic in mine hehehe... and the answer to your question is yes my friend....please refer to UG-37(g) in ASME sec VIII div 1 and you'll see that at least one weep or tell tale hotel is required for pads. hope this helps.

Nozz repads yes; lug, etc repads no.

The reason for the weephole in the nozz repad is so that the welds on this repad can be 'soap-bubble' tested. This repad is tied into the vessel shell, with a weld to the nozz, and that weld extenss along the nozz to the process side of the vessel.

Lifting-lug repads do not have welds that extend into the vessel. Only a mechanical attachment, thus no mandatory weep-hole and 'soap-bubble' test. Still a good idea, though.
