Hi guys/gals,

My co worker came up to me today and asked me to find/price an Allen-Bradley PLC and programming software for a project we have. He didn't give me much information but I figured a start would be to ask here and call our local rep. to see what I can find out. All I know so far is I need to find an Allen-Bradley PLC and programming software that has (5) 4-20mA Inputs available
(1) Digital Input
(3) Analog Outputs
and I believe it is going to have something to do with a water system (pressure valves, high level switches, indicators etc.) but I have not had a chance to verify this. Although that should not matter so much as long as the correct number and types of I/O ports are available correct?
I asked about an HMI or panel view and he said just the PLC for now. Any suggestions which versions I should be looking at?

I know he has used Micrologix 1400 before and I was currently looking at either SLC 500 or the Micrologix 1000-1400 series.

Thanks,
AJ

A 1400 can support up to seven expansion modules for digital, relay, and analog inputs and outputs. It can also support EtherNet/IP and other (serial and CAN bus) protocols to enable a link to HMI panels, whether PV+ or other manufacturer's panels.

If not a lot of processing power is required, and since it can be configured at a later date for HMI tags, it may be a good fit. It can be programmed using either RXLogix500 (Version 7.2 or higher) or RXLogix5000 software. Your local A-B distributor should be able to give you pricing for the software and licensing, and for new hardware. Reman and surplus hardware can be found at several places on the www.

You could do that with a Micro830 as well. There is a 4 channel and a 2 channel analog input module, then a 2 channel analog output module. The Micro810 can't do it because it only allows 2 add-on modules, you will need 4; 2 AI modules (4+2) and 2 AO modules (2+2) to have enough to do that task. So you would get the smallest base model, which comes with the Digital I/O.

The MicroLogix use Connected Components Workbench (CCW) for programming, it's a free download (1GB+) and also covers the small "Component" class HMIs and VFDs as well. If you want a DVD, they'll mail it.
