Hello. I have modeled an elbow in ABAQUS and I want to refine my mesh in more critical regions like the photo below. I tried all mesh generation tools provided by the program but did not work. How can I do it? Thank you.

Thank you IceBreakerSours. Of course partitioning is needed and I have used partitioning but I really think it needs more advanced techniques. If you have examples which have used these types of meshing kindly attach it hear.

Can you narrow down your question? "How can I do it?" will not elicit very useful answers. Let's start with the defect region, are you able to partition your model to divide your geometry down into just this region (as Ice suggested) and mesh this region to your satisfaction?

Thank you compositesFEAguru. Yes I can. You can see my model below with five partitions. I used edge seeds, sweep and structured mesh but didn't work. I want my elements be Hex and I think tie introduces some discontinuity to the model.

a) Are you importing this geometry into CAE? If so, there may be some small edges that may be resulting in a sub-optimal mesh.

b) When assigning global seed size, perhaps changing the "Maximum deviation factor" in the "Curvature control" option may help.

c) Have you tried using the "Create Bottom-Up Mesh" set of options. Choosing appropriate "Source", "Connecting sides", and/or "Target" sometimes gets the job done for me.

d) If nothing else works, then you may need to use a different pre-processor. MeshLab and IA-FeMesh are free. HyperMesh is an excellent pre-processor.

If you wish, you can upload your geometry and see if someone here can help you with this.
