My client says that he require Gate valve with solid wedge complying to NACE MR-01 75. I informed my client that solid wedge is not possible & we can provide flexible wedge only as most of our valve manufacturers produces flexible wedge only. My client has replied that since NACE compliance is required, they want solid wedge only & not flexible wedge. My client informs that if NACE compliance is not required, then they can accept flexible wedge.

Is there any relation between NACE compliance & the type of the wedge.

You will have to aquire the latest valid issue of the complete NACE MR 01-75 to answer this. I am not familiar with this, and can not tell you neither content, nor if this is 'latest'.

On the other hand, when 'NACE Compliance' (without any further description or details) is mentioned, this will normally describe the different non-corrosive material qualities allowed in construction for certain applications and equipment, and relevant tests and certificates for this.

I doubdt NACE would give instructions for wedge type, but this will probably be specified by other specifications, as indicated by the answer to you.

Sorry for the 'roundabout' comments, maybe others could be more specific. I am however sure the exact required type, with required certifications, exists in the market.

I've never seen any NACE spec go beyond material requirements. As far as I have read and unless I missed it MR0175 and MR0103 (the two most common NACE specs when discussing valves) do not address wedge design.

Side note I always thought that an argument can be made that a flex wedge is a solid wedge. It's made from a single solid casting it's not two or more pieces.

The only service that I have ever found that actually does not want a flex wedge over a "solid" wedge is certain types of ash service where the ash can pack into the flex wedge crevice
