What type of material would be best used for construction of a vessel in a situation where the unit heats up a material to approximately 600F using an indirect heat source of steam and has the ability to be put under vacuum?

It depends on your fluid. The most common would be carbon steel (many types), assumming the fluid will not cause corrosion or cracking of the metal.
