Well, more or less the title says it all. I am looking for methods to test the mechanical properties of an extruded PET film for both small and large deformations. (tensile, compressive, shear, rate and temperature dependency, friction, etc....) Can you help me to find those who might can help? Any publications, universities, test laboratories, equipment details, test rigs? Thank you in advance...

ASTM has a number of standards that cover testing of plastic film/sheet. The following are some examples:

ASTM D 1709 Standard Test Methods for Impact Resistance of Plastic Film by the Free-Falling Dart Method

ASTM D 1004 Standard Test Method for Initial Tear Resistance of Plastic Film and Sheeting

ASTM D 1894 Standard Test Method for Static and Kinetic Coefficients of Friction of Plastic Film and Sheeting

ASTM D 882 Standard Test Method for Tensile Properties of Thin Plastic Sheeting

You can obtain more information by accessing the ASTM website:

GSC,

You can contact Tinius Olsen Testing Machine Co, (215) 675-7100 for assitance in testing equipment.
