RC edge beam (foundation slab)

I'm dealing with a foundation RC slab . I have RC columns on the edge of a slab (forces in columns are not so small) which means that punching shear is an issue. I can't make columns dimensions much bigger which would save a problem. I also don't want to make a thicker slab (more than 250 mm) since its a residental building. So I think I have 2 options – to desing shear reinforcement in a slab or design a RC beam on the edge of a slab. Since I have never done this before I'm asking for some guidance about design and needed controls of edge beam and its connection to a slab? I suspect there is a shear line along the whole beam (beam – slab connection)?

Recommended for you

Using beams you will avoid slab punching shear. You'd only have direct beam shear.

The slabs would only see shear from their own loads (per unit length) along the side of the beam.

I would have thought you would always have a thickening/beam at the edge. But you may also consider isolated pad footings under the columns.
 
thank you for help, but I am still not sure how to calculate design shear force acting between a foundation slab and a beam (along the beam). I understand that there is no more punching shear since beam prevents it.

I think I should calculate a design load acting on a slab (design contact pressures - design load on a slab)...as shown in attached calculation.
Im also wondering if this shear load along a beam (kN/m) is getting larger when we get close/near a column?

Am I tottaly wrong? :)

I would think this would call for a FEA solution....since spring constants would control the forces seen.
