Hi Guys,

I've seen hot sticks installed on some utility poles as I was driving through Central California, unfortunately wasn't able to stop and take a picture. Supposedly, these are used to open the fuse disconnects(act as mechanical linkage). I assume those are also lockable. Do you know what vendors make them(S&C?).

Thank you,
EE

Every line truck has an assortment of hot sticks. Try A.B. Chance (Hubbell). There are others. You may be seeing an operating mechanism for a group-operated switch - not an actual hotstick.

I have a feeling your talking about gang operated air break switches.
There are a couple of different manufacturers

Curious is this what you're referring to?

Both these poles have manual switches.

Interestingly enough there are four of these around this little substation which is now completely empty. There is nothing inside the walls now.

We have a couple of old step down stations the same way. We converted the circuits to 25kV coming out of them and use the switches for back feeding.
