Hello!
i am looking for information about Process platform(offshore).
1) what would be the average height and length of Jacket weight being 2000 MT and piling 2200 MT (8+8 legs)?
2) what is 8+8 legs?
3) what size of pipe & thickness and structural material generally used in fabrication of platform?
Basically i am looking for general information to figure out how how much welding will be involved. you can also provide information from your experience of jacket fabrication that you may have done / knowing giving material and welding amount detail. detail of any kind will be helpful to me.
thanks,
imtiyaz

I am not sure if you have all the information. Some of
the questions cannot be answered easily, because there
could be any number of situations where such data
can be applicable. I shall try to answer to the best of
my guess work(Assumed data!)

1. Typically, an 8 legged, 2000 tonne jacket would be
in about 60 meters of water. Where is it located?
Height about 70 metres, top 45m X 15 m and base
bottom about 60 m X 30 m.

2. 8+8 normally means 8 main legs and 8 skirt pile
sleeves. When main piles are inadequate to carry the
total forces to the soil additional piles called skirt piles
are driven.

3. Depending on the location, different grades and
sizes are used. Typical sizes and materials are:

piles 42" - 72" outer diameter. Wall thickness 1" - 2"
Material ASTM A36/ BS 7191
Jacket legs inner dia 3-4" more than pile dia.
Material same as piles. Joint cans API Spec 2H
or BS 7191 Grade 355EMZ
Braces 12" - 30" O.D. Wall thickness 3/8in - 1.5in.
Material A36 / BS 7191
Tubulars 16" and less could be API 5L Gr. B

If you can tell which location/owner you are interested in,
we can hazard a more intelligent guess about the data.
I presume you are working in the offshore area. In that case,
drawings of the structure of interest must be available as
input documents?

Normally, welding quantity is assumed to be 3% of the
steel weight (for weight/ design purposes - not for costing!)

Hope this helps
