Aerial Crossing - DIP Saddles 2

Good morning all. I'm working on the structural supports for an aerial crossing - sanitary sewer, ductile iron pipe. Typically these are set on concrete piers with a formed saddle and a strap holds it down. Due to a variety of site constraints, that's not an option. I originally detailed an integrally fabricated saddle for the pipes to sit in, but it's a sticking point on cost and I've been asked to reconsider this connection.

Anyone have any good resources for supports for DIP on a steel beam located outside? Most things I've found that are prefabbed are meant to sit up on pipe stanchions and are generally intended for interior use without the inconvenience of environmental loading.

I'd be telling the contractor to propose a solution. If they don't like yours, then they should find something they do like and you review it.

I'm sure there are some form of pre-fabricated pipe saddles that you could find a way to mount to a steel structure.
 
When will contractors learn the fastest way to get an answer to an RFI is to include a proposed alternate?

I would recommend galvanized support with a wear pad to protect the DIP and separate the dissimilar materials. Added photos for attention

HTURKAK - thanks. That's what I used to design it originally.

GC - correct. Steel beam.

It's actually the municipality that requested the redesign after the cost came back. The original probably would have been fine in regular procurement and bidding, but they did it as a direct award/emergency repair so they got emergency pricing. So the contractor doesn't deserve the heat on this one (yet).

I've been away from my desk all morning and, after a conversation with my client while I was out, we decided the best way forward is to design a custom fabrication (like the picture GC_Hopi has) but then provide minimum specs for alternatives if the contractor has a better idea. All galvanized with bearing pads and can be bolted down to the beam.
