I have been involved with weld analysis and specification for a short while. It seems that the more that I study AWS D1.1 the more confusing it gets! Does anyone recommend a/some course/courses that will help to eliminate the confusion or shed light on D1.1?

contact AWS and ask after their CWI seminar. you don't have to sit for the exam!

I wouldn't take the CWI Seminar if your main work is in D1.1. Most of what is covered in basic math, basic weld knowledge and inspection criteria.

AWS offers many classes in many parts of country on just the D1.1 code. There will be a few next week (April 7th) in Detroit, MI at the annual AWS Show. Their website is
Also, The Hobart Institute of Welding Technology (HIWT) in Troy, Ohio offers a lot of very good courses, including one called "Welding for the non-welder" This and other courses can be found at the HIWT website at William Roth, PE, CWI
