Breaking limit of labyrinth fins. Myth or Fact ?

Why engineers talk about not supplying excessive pressure to labyrinth seal as it will break the fins.
Is this a myth or a fact ?

What I know is too much pressure may cause instabilities.
The fins are rigid.
