Looking for ideas on a simple way to add a steel ledger to the side of a wide flange beam.

I want to use wide flange because it will support a moment frame with moment connection. This is in a shallow floor system. Residential. On one or both sides depending on location, I will have concrete on metal deck supported on the side of the beam. The concrete will go over top of the beam where it is on both sides. The particular detail I am looking at will be the deck edge, so minimal structural requirement. I may have a similar detail with the deck spanning to the beam, but this will be very little load. I mainly want to use concrete on deck because this will be at-grade exterior patio, and concrete seems more robust than plywood for this condition.

I could weld vertical plate at intervals to the side, and weld an angle to that. Or weld vertical tube between flanges, and weld the ledger to that. Wondering if there is a typical detail for this, or a better/easier idea.

Thanks,

Aaron

The precast world uses a very similar detail where those vertical plates are angle stiffeners. This provides a nice surface to weld the ledge angle to.

Another option is shown below. This is likely more appropriate for the scale of your situation. Be warry of potential corrosion issues.
