Hi,
I am working on a bundled offshore pipeline. One of the pipeline in the bundle is a "water winning" line. Can anybody please explain what is a water winning line. The only info I could get on that so far is that it is used for hydrotest. however, I am unsure how the hydrotest would work with this line. Why not pump seawater directly into the line pipe for hydrotest?
Am I missing anything here? Any insights will be greatly appreciated.

Well you are correct.

That's exactly what the purpose is.

In order to pump seawater into the other pipes for hydro testing you need a supply of seawater. That comes from the water winning line as the pump is best located on the beach. You can't have the pump inlet more than about 5m above the water level or you need a submersible pump somewhere.

The line is often used in the opposite direction to flow the test water back to the sea.
