Safe design

I would recommend you get someone (manager? tutor?) to walk you through SAFE, how it works, how load cases are set up, etc. because your knowledge seems pretty bare-bones if you can't figure out the problem from this particular message.

This is an error message that makes it immediately obvious what the problem is: there is a load case that isn't defined. First place to look is your load cases/patterns and whether they were set up (perhaps imported?) correctly. Other error messages may not be so obvious though.

If you don't know what a modal analysis is either, get someone to walk you through that too.

Yeah, he's probably new to SAFE. Maybe he's been tasked with evaluating it and hit a road block early.

It certainly is a good idea for him to solicit help from someone in his office who might know the program better. However, I will say the following:

a) Go to Define - Load Cases to see what type of load cases you have defined.
b) I'll suspect that you'll see one that doesn't look right to you. If there is one that says it's Load Case Type is "modal" then that may be the problem. If there is a load case with a blank Load Case Type, then that is definitely your problem. If there is one that says it's Load Case Type is "Response Spectra" or "Time History" then this is definitely your issue as those features shouldn't be available in SAFE. Maybe it was imported from another program or something.
c) I believe SAFE can have a Modal load case, but it's not used very often. ETABS and SAP2000 are more geared towards dynamics and seismic loading. But, SAFE isn't used for that much.
