Does anyone know how to temporary shore a Hambro floor? Hambro joist are bearing on an interior CMU bearing wall and we need to provide temporary shoring in order to install a lintel for an 8ft wide opening.

This is a 3-story building. We need to shore the lower 2 floors, with the lowest level being slab on grade. The contractor wants to install a wood-framed shoring wall about 20" inboard of the wall that will receive the opening (per images below).

I am not sure if this method is acceptable, given that the joist top chord will be temporarily supported between panel points.

It might be easier to shore the CMU with needle beams instead.

I've used this type of shoring when removing the entire bearing wall full height to rebuild it, but not when masonry above is to remain. In that case, I agree with XR - needle beam it.

Reach out to the regional Hambro rep for some guidance, they are usually very helpful with stuff like this.

Ben - you are completely changing the local loading on the beams. You need to do a structural analysis of the shored configuration ; start with a free body diagram of the original and shored beam configurations; that should give some insight. You will need to find or determine the loads on the existing building.
