Glulam uplift connection

I'm designing a perimeter glulam beam under a shearwall for a pile supported house. The glulam sits inside a notch in a pile, with the bearing taking all the gravity load, and a thru bolt taking the uplift. Now, I'm in Florida, so the uplifts are substantial - and I cannot locate the bolts below the NA per NDS. However, looking at the Glulam Connection Details (best practices) guide from the APA, it looks like that bolts thru the top of the beam can end up taking on gravity load as the beam shrinks, which again causes problems. With our high humidity here in FL, is shrinkage for glulams even a big concern - this will be inside a mechanical space below the floor, so I do not expect attic level temperatures.
