Boomerang-shaped buildings 1

If you have a rigid roof diaphragm, or the metal deck with diagonal horizontal members, and those solid long walls are shear walls, there's enough of a perpendicular lateral component to not need bracing at a and b. I wouldn't use expansion joints, and keep the whole thing continuous. The tricky part is chord continuity at the angles of the long walls.

Because of the transition in direction, I would likely put a joint at a and b and treat them as separate buildings. The individual components appear to be big enough.

@milkshakelake thats an interesting though but im not comfortable stretching a building 1000' without some consideration for expansion. not sure the diaphragm aspect ratio will work out either
