Hi,
I am looking for a reference to design scarf joint such as these.

If you know a reference manual, a code or anything that could help me find the maximum loads on the joint It would be very much appreciated.

As I recall, the NDS has everything you need. It's been a few years since I had to run numbers on one, but I'm pretty sure that's all I used. You have to look at bearing areas, shear, tension, etc. in the various parts of the cut members.

Trada had a whole bunch of webinars on timberframe design a while back. They did not record them and they were presented live. My problem was that due to the time difference (UK vs Can) they would be visible for viewing about 4AM... not so good.
