Catia use "Transform" tool in order to move/rotate/duplicate objects.
You can select any parameters (distance, angle, degree) you want.
Is there something similar in SolidWorks?
So far, it looks like moving objects is reduced to mating constrains only.
For instance, can I move a line in a given direction, at, let's say 10mm?......

Thank you...........

Hi, CAD2015:

Yes, of course.

You can move entities, bodies, objects, and etc.

Generally, we don't move a line in a sketch. What you need to do is to locate the line to coordinate system of your sketch or part. You can then change dimension to move the line.

When you want to move a line, you have to define moving direction. It sounds like you want to do an offset of the line.

Best regards,

Alex

Alex,

The "line move" was just an example.
I was thinking about simply moving objects (in 3D modeling and 2D drafting).
So, what are the steps in moving an object for a given value? What tools should I use?

Hi, CAD2015:

There are 3 different kinds of moving commands:

1) You move sketch entities in a sketch;
2) You move bodies in a part;
3) You move parts in an assembly.

Generally, you don't want to move an object. You want to locate them.

If you just want to move something a little, you can grab it with left mouse click.

I can't tell you how to move until you show me what you want to move. Otherwise, I would have to write a book. (LOL)

Best regards,

Alex

Thanks Alex, you're perfectly right.
I will create an example and send the picture, sometimes today.
Have a nice day!

CAD2015,

You can use a sketch to control positions in assemblies. Read up on the equation editor, which will parametrically control your sketch.
