Hello,

Is is possible to control the value of a dimension or parameter between one simplified rep of a given part and another simplified rep of that same part?

We used to do this with family tables, but our company doesn't use family tables.

Thanks,
Glenn

Simplified reps are lists of components of assemblies or features of parts. Family tables control dimensions. Simplified reps are, in assemblies, a bit better than layers for visibility control because they also can prevent retrieval of all the other parts and can make substitutions so part retrieval is faster. I don't recall any related parameters or dimensions that exist solely within a simplified rep.

I love the companies that don't use family tables. It's like walking into a machine shop and getting told they don't use power tools of any kind. The reason is always amusingly bad and usually because they don't know what family tables are for, but someone once really screwed the pooch and they were never able to figure anything out after that.

I did have one guy who liked to burst 1000 part family tables into individual part files so that any time a basic change would be required he would have 1000 times more work hours to charge to make that change. Smart guy. Destructive as hell to the company and really screwed over the users, but smart to look out for himself.
