I need to conduct a reversal direct shear test on sand. Based on what I've read so far, it is done by shearing the soils repeatedly. We can get the residual strength from it but I'm wondering can we still get the peak/critical state/fully softened shear strengths on the first shear before getting the residual strenth in the subsequent shears?
Also it apparently is use to simulate large deformations in soil such as landslides but can it also represent repetitive loading from let's say traffic loads?
Thanks in advance
