Hello all, I’m needing some advice on how to calculate shrinking a structural offset. I have an 8” beam with an offset measuring 5’-9.5” center to center that was bent by a company. I’m needing the offset to measure 4’-0.25” center to center. How would I calculate how much to cut out of the beam to shrink this to the desired outcome? The beam will need to be cut and then welded, it will be used for a trolley for lifting die blocks.

Trigonometry.
Determine hypotenuse of the existing offset. Use Pythagoras to determine the ratio of offset to hypotonus, then apply the ratio to your desired offset. The difference will be how much to remove from the hypotonus to have the desired offset.
