Hi all,

Can anyone give me an idea for bending a SS pipe of 1 inch OD and 1mm wall thickness, in the most economical way, this is for a small scale operation and not for any manufacturing purpose.

thanks in advance.

fill with sand, heat and bend...very carefully

otherwise take it to a shop with a bending mandrel so they can do a proper job of it...

You got a piece of tubing there, gotta agree with hacksaw, a bending shop would be the best. The wall is pretty thin for a tubing bender, you would definately need some form of internal support to keep it from crinkling, accordian effect. The mandrels are size specific to the tubing OD, and I believe they are adjustable for thickness. My tech says it can be done but he'd waiste a good 20 feet of tubing setting up the machine. Called my dad(typical knows everything old fart) says to use fine sand, pack it but not to tight, and bend it really slow. If you're using a bender lubricate the tubing and wear safety glasses, if it splts open the sand can shoot out. Good Luck.

If you want to calibrate bended pipe I.D., use some steel balls same sized with I.D.
