I have been inspecting steel bridges for fatigue cracks for several years now using ultrasonic. I would like to discuss some of my theories with someone who also has plenty of experience in this area. Could you please email me and we can possibly both gain. Is there anywhere else where I can discuss bridge matters with experienced people?

Thanks

Thanks

PS I also have 25 years experience in all elements of bridges so can discuss many topics and not just fatigue cracks.

Whoops. I thought there was a way on this site to email direct. You can email me at pug_bb@hotmail.com. Thanks for pointing it out.

Pug, usually the way this forum works is to post a question, idea, news or other commentary on the subject of engineering structures. Those interested will respond to the post.

Having said that, please feel free to contribute your theories/ideas. Others will reply as appropriate.

Thanks and welcome.

I fully agree with Qshake ,let us discuss in forum and share with other members , I am eagerly waiting for this topic/s(as u said u have many topics) to be discussed-I appreciate your initiative --good luck

How much bridge experience do you all have? Just want to know who I am talking to and at what level.

Sadly, I don't get an opportunity to be at this site more due to other thought grabbers. But would like to get into a good topic and thus move other things aside.

Thanks

I though I would throw my 15 years of bridge inspection, maintenance, NDT evaluation, and construction experience in the mix. And, just to start, I do not know of any reasonable manner of detecting a fatigue crack using ultrasonic inspection. The majority of fatigue cracks are found using visual inspection techniques, and to a much lesser degree by acoustic emissions monitoring, however there are effective uses for ultrasonic inspection for problem details, weldments, etc... What would you like to discuss?
