Fellows,

I have been asked to come up with a rough estimate for the cost of a gluelam timber deck superstructure subject to pedestrian loading only. The geometry of the approaches practically precludes even a pickup truck getting on the bridge. I estimate the span length to be somewhere around one hundred twenty feet and the deck is about eight feet wide with a wooden handrail. If anyone could give me a per square feet number I would appreciate it. Thanks - Dinosaur

120' IS A HEALTHY SPAN, I WOULD CONTACT THE SUPPLIER FOR ENGINEERING INFORMATION ON THEIR AVAILABLE SECTIONS AND THEIR SUPPLY LENGTHS. MOST CODES WILL REQUIRE A 100 PSF DESIGN ON THIS WHICH EXCEEDS MOST PARKING GARAGE DESIGN.

Well, I had anticipated using 85 psf because that is the maximum sidewalk live load and this will be strictly a pedestrian bridge. I guess I could get on the web and look for gluelam suppliers. Thanks for the reminder. - Dinosaur

I did take tha advice of the fellow that suggested I just find a gluelam producer on the internet. I got in touch with a fellow in Canada that said his company produced gluelams over 100 feet long.

Good Luck - Dinosaur
