Can anyone advise the most efficient method of heating acrylic sheet for forming windscreens?
I have heard that electric, bar type heaters of the room heater type are used but isn't there something like the frequency of the radiation to be considered? If the radiation was the right frequency, the sheet would absorb it instead of passing through.
Thanks, Gyro.

For sharp bends most people I know use infared strip heaters on the localised area only.

For fully moulded profiles, they use a large, but convenctional oven to evenly heat the whole sheet.

I don't know of anyone who uses specific wavelength radiation to heat large sheets of acrylic

Regards

In many cases, a hot oil bath is used to soften acrylic sheet, which has the added, incidental advantage of providing a lubricated layer between the acrylic and the mold surface, giving an improved optical clarity to the part being molded.

Hi Just Asking,
That is a different idea!
How do you handle it with that hot oil on it?
What sort of oil is used, vegetable or mineral?
