I have a petrol driven (20cc motor) Grass cutting Edger on which the Gear Box/Clutch is not working. The unit has hardly been used and since to replace with a new would cost about 1/2 the value of a brand new Edge Cutter I am wondering if someone has details on how this gearbox part is made up, (must be a common design for most of these "Gear Driven Edgers") and whether it can be disassembled, simply repaired etc.?

You have not mentioned the model number
or Manufacturere. You must have received
a replacement parts manual and instructions
with it.

I would rather not mention the brand, but is a very common domestic type. probably used less then 10 hours of edge cutting.
I believe the gear box is a "sealed unit" replaced when "failed".
I did not receive a maintenance manual. The gear box probably costs $5 to make and sells for $100. The whole unit sells for $300-$400. Do they work with gears, springs bearings?. I think most of these clutch/gear boxes are basically the same design.

If you bought this new and only have 10 hours on it then take it back! Warranty should cover this.
