I need to import a mechanical desktop 5 file into solidworks 2001. I have already tried using the conversion .dll provided with SW, but since I only have MDT 4 and not MDT 5, the system always gets hung up. Does anyone know what I can do to get the data into a solidworks file format.

Hi Tokugawa,
have tried over ACIS (*.sat)?
In case of assys you will have to localize
all assys and parts and then
explode them into acad solids
(until there are no instances
left in browser tree).
Then command acisout from MDT.

I'm not sure if this will work or not, because I have never used it. But try "Xhangeworks" maybe that will help. I believe it's a free download to SW.

Hope that helps, Scott Baugh, CSWP :)

I tried it. It worked fine with MDT 3 -> SW2001.

I read somewhere, that you must use MDT 4 with MDTservicepack (try to download and install latest one).
I think that MDT 4 is not supported on Windows 2000, so you could use Windows NT 4 for MDT 4.

I you want to need only geometry (not feature tree) than you rather try import data via ACIS *.SAT files. It's faster and almost error free. You don't need to have both products on same computer and you don't need to run both products together (also you don't need faster CPU and more memory - MDT is hungry).

Xchangeworks is extension modul for MDT. Xchangeworks can be used for importing from SW or any other format, which can SW read, to MDT. Not from MDT to SW.
