I'm working on a dissertation comparing static & rotating excitation systems, design, performance characteristics, cost & reliability. However, all my experience is with brushless rotating excitation systems on small salient pole synchronous generators.
Could someone point me in the right direction in terms of product information please?
I've visited numerous web sites & picked up some general 'glossy information' on who's the great and the good of static systems, but none of them seem to want to issue any performance and reliability information - supprisingly!!

Thanks

Suggestions:
1. I have similar difficulties with obtaining information you are interested in. It appears that it may be either unavailable or proprietary (competition sensitive). However, it may be included in Tech Manuals of the product, once you locate it.
2. Generator exciter performance and reliability information may be available from service firms, i.e. practitioners, and small salient pole generator manufacturers.
3. Visit
etc. for more info
4. References:
a) Arthur R. Bergen, "Power Systems Analysis," Prentice-Hall, 1986, Chapter 11 "Voltage Control System"
b) Yao-nan Yu, Electric Power System Dynamics, Academic Press, 1983

jbartos,
thanks for the links, I've visited most of these sites before & come up with little more than sales jargon.
However, the power tronics & the balser sites have proved worth a visit.
I thought there would be some relevent up to date text books on the subject, or at least be the subject of an IEEE transactions paper.
I appreciate your effort anyway

///Please, notice that IEEE journals do not address commercial products normally. It would have to be some exceptional product, e.g. very special battery, superconducting motor, etc. to be granted an exception. I get an impression that you need some original and meaty content for your dissertation. Also, the academic advisors, e.g. PhD candidate advisors, usually bring a good material for the PhD candidate dissertation. Patents usually do not deal with reliability although they may predict it.\\\
