Posted this in the adhesives group, but thought the polymer folks might have some ideas.

Currently using a silane-based primer system (with alkoxy and amine reactivity). In general it works great in bonding polyester materials to polyolefins (like EVA, EMA, EEA, etc.). Though strangely a good bond is not obtained when using any EAA resins. It is understandable why LDPE would not work very well, but EAA is supposed to be a very chemically functional resin class - yet it can be peeled away from the polyester after being extruded upon the primer. Quite confounding. Any ideas? (just bad luck with the chemical/primer matchup, or something strange about EAA's perhaps?). Thanks for any insights. :)

ResinBlend:

My first observation is that you’ve been bonding esters to esters (polyethylene terephthalate, ethylene-vinylacetate, ethylene-methylacrylate, and ethylene-ethyl acrylate) and now you’re attempting to bond an ester to an acid (ethylene-acrylic acid copolymer).

Try esterifying the EAA surface with an alcohol prior to bonding. This may get you back on track.
