Hi,

Is there a standard (ASME, ISO, etc) describing the allowances required between a ring gauge and the shaft to be measured?
I was looking at ISO 286 and ANSI B4.1, but they deal with the system of limits and fits in general.
In considering the allowance required, should the geometric tolerance (roundness, cylindricity) be added to the allowance?

Thank you.

I don't know about shafting, but in the tubing business we generally use a clearance of 0.002"/in of diameter, with a 0.001" minimum. This would be for ring gages that are 'square', length = diameter.

Corrosion never sleeps, but it can be managed.
