    Bolting to the flange also makes since to me. Just that I am seeing the new generation of engineers bolting to the stem which causes them to have to strip flange at the gusset plate. Even AISC only gives a bolt gage for the flange not the stem.

    I agree with you. The field added a temporary skid and set it on fiberglass grating. There is an engineer here giving an ok to add two air compressor on top of that skid. I have see where operating companies specifically state not to place equipment on top of grating. I was hoping to find a spec...
