For your cohesive layer, first create the part with a thickness and mesh using cohesive elements (COH3D8). Second, assign the stack direction to the part with thickness so you can pick surface easily. Third, without converting to an orphan mesh, use the edit mesh tool to offset nodes from one...
Steven - I do this type of modeling quite a bit but have never converted the part to an orphan mesh. You can modify the nodes on a meshed part that is associated with a part without converting to an orphan mesh (might complicate things?). Also, check that stack direction is consistent across...
Mike - This calculation gets rather complex and probably can't be expressed too easily in a single equation. I would look into obtaining a composite laminate analysis software package.

You should be able to view just the damaged elements by creating a Display Group (Tools - Display Group). Select Elements under Item and Result value under Method. You can then adjust the type of ranges you want to see (for example all elements with DMICRT >= 1).

I did not see .odb on your list. You will need this file to view your results, unless you plan on re-running the analysis on your laptop. In my opinion, you should transfer everything, you will never know when you'll need the other files. Also you may be running a newer version of Abaqus on...
Glad to help! Good luck with the rest of your project, I would be interested to hear about how your results turn out.

Copy and paste the following keywords from your input file that did not run:
*Damage Initiation
Everything under **Output Requests
(I'm assuming you created this input file using CAE)

If you want to use the Puck failure criterion you have two options:
1. Write (or obtain) a VUMAT. The output variables you view would be defined within the VUMAT and would have a SDV1, SDV2, etc. label.
2. Use a 3rd party software product for composite material analysis with Abaqus that...
How are you attempting to use the Puck failure criterion right now? As far as I know, it is not available in Abaqus...?

Section 31.5.6 in the Abaqus Analysis User's Manual will help. You will want to output MAXSCRT and QUADSCRT and see when those values reach a value of >=1.0 (failure initiation).

That all seems correct. I'm not sure why you would be getting the message "results for the current deformed variable are not available for one or more nodes contained in the model. deformations at such nodes are assumed to be zero". Look for any additional errors/warnings in your .dat, .sta...
