Pneumatic Test Pressure for Refrigeration System

I am trying to develop a refrigeration unit for which I need to register the design in Canada. The codes used are CSA B51, CSA B52 and design codes include ASME section VIII. The design specification for the components are as follows: The whole refrigeration system is to be registered as...

    Validation of FEA results

I submitted one of my designs for provincial registration with ABSA. The reviewer is asking us to validate the FEA results. Can someone let me know how I can validate the FEA results? I have attached link to the FEA study that I performed. [URL...

Equipment to measure ice fraction in slurry ice

I am looking for an equipment to measure ice fraction in slurry ice. Is anyone familiar with any such equipment??

    Constant heat equipment

Thank you everybody for your views and suggestions. My current plan is to hookup the heater to a watt meter and measure the input energy. Assuming the heater would have an efficiency close to 100%, I would know the heat output. Let me give it a shot and see how the setup works.

    Constant heat equipment

@EdStainless Yes, That is one of the ideas that came up. I am looking for any alternative options that can work in the same scenario.

    Constant heat equipment

Hello, I am in the search for an equipment that gives out constant heat output. The equipment can be similar to an immersion heater, the output should not vary with the electrical input. This is to be used in the calorimetric testing of a two phase liguid (ice in brine solution). Thanks for...

    ASME B31.5 Proof Test 504.7(c)

@Cobra17 What is the minimum burst/failure pressure required to pass the test? Is it 3 times of the design pressure?? @r6155 I looked at chapter VI of ASME B31.5 and found no information regarding proof test, though it talks about pressure tests and Leak tests. Can you please explain ?

    Refrigerant phase out

My company builds systems that run on R404A and R410A. These refrigerants are being phased out in many parts of the world right now. We are in the search for a compatible, efficient alternative for our systems. Is there a one stop solution or a guide to see which refrigerant is an acceptable...

    ASME B31.5 Proof Test 504.7(c)

I am in the process of registering one of our refrigeration system designs under ABSA. The engineer reviewing our documents said he needs us to do a proof test on the condenser coil which is part of the refrigeration system. ASME B31.5 paragraph 504.7(c), says the heat transfer components...

How to differentiate between 316 and 316L based on material composition.

@SnTMan If the material is dual certified, is it ok to use the stress values and charts for 316, which is higher?

How to differentiate between 316 and 316L based on material composition.

@EDStainless. The carbon content of the material as per the MTR is 0.029%. Do this mean the material is both 316 and 316L? The mechanical properties also meet the requirements for both 316 and 316L. So, i am wondering what grade this material belong to?

How to differentiate between 316 and 316L based on material composition.

I am having some confusion if the material I have is 316 or 316l. This is a SA-249 Stainless steel tube. Based on the material composition and strength requirements, the material fall into both. If I consider the tube as 316, I could use the HA2 chart for external pressure and the required...

    CSA B52-18 Clause 5.2

I am having trouble understanding clause 5.2 from CSA B52-18. 5.2(b) says we may be exempt from registration if the refrigeration system is covered by the following 4 standards. Does this mean our equipment has to comply with all 4 standards? What do I do if one of the standards is not...

    Nozzle Design Calculation

@XL83NL Thank you for directing me to CC202. it sure was a new learning. No, I don't have a proper solution to this problem yet other than FEA or Burst Test.

    Nozzle Design Calculation

@XL83NL CC202 is for fittings manufactured by forging and casting and is not applicable for welded fittings
