Not sure about the standard but they mentioned primary reason to select steel trap(STM) gasket is due to Significantly lower minimum gasket seating stress.

For HRSG drum manhole, our spec. calls for spiral wound gasket vs our supplier came back with deviation to use steel trap (STM) gaskets. I have not heard but is that allowable?
