Thanks for the answer SnT
Yeah yeah, the net area its defined in the phrase I quote. Maybe i didn't make a precise question. My point was, where do i apply this net area. I review the equations related and didn't find a ecc with an area involve.

Hi all!
hope you are doing good this days.
I was looking in the forum but didnt find any related thread.
I'm designing a Heat Exchanger under the ASME Sec VIII div 2. This HX has a Vapor Belt or distributor.
In point 8.1.3 says "The longitudinal stress in the shell section with openings (for...
Hi all!
as always i tried to look in this forum for an answer with no results.
When air cooler header box are welded(full pen with 6 plates) for a ASME header, its common to pre drill, weld and then finish the tube holes and plug holes? or its common to full drill the plates and the weld the...
Hi!
another way could be with SA213. This year N08904 is integrated in the SA213 (seamless tube).
Page 260 of the section II code, part D.
I hope it could be helpful.

Thanks a lot for your answer
I read again and it confuse me when the UW20 do a push out configuration but the ASTM E8 do a pull out. It can be interpreted as the same test? Thats why i ask if in the end of the tube it should be weld some piece to perform the push.
Here where i come from it can...
Hi all i hope you are doing well.
now that this shear load test may be mandatory in 2023, it dont see in figure UW-20.3 how the load is applied. The tube need to have some weld piece in the end for the plunger?
Where i can find a real configuration to perform this test?
I'll appreciate any...
I forgot, about the filler, i dont have enough ligament dimension ( or tube separation) to do a manual gtaw weld with a filler. Thats why i just want to do autogenous weld. its more common in the shop to do.
I would do some test with a filler, i think i would be worth it.
Thanks for you answer!
i always see you replying on these topics and always good responses.
I will do some mockup test(I have to test rolling expansion too) so I will take into account the hot crack phenomenon.

Hi all
hope you are doing ok :)
Questions: can i do a seal weld between 904L N08904(tube) and 316L(tubesheet) with gtaw autogenous welding? i read that 904l could lose a little of corrosion resistance, but in this case, as only seal weld the tube expansion is in charge to resist forces.
Anyone...
Thanks for the Answer Ed C:
Yes! I saw that solution too. I was thinking in a welded "baffle" as well(laser cut this baffle and then cut between rows to place the U tubes finally weld the other on top), trying to support this baffle in the shell(because the U goes from side to side, not from up...
Hi all!
hope you are doing well.
I have one question, how does the U bend support are placed in the bundle?. I saw a picture showing that can be welded between rows. But can be placed in one piece? it need a bigger tube hole to allow the bend?
I'm attached a reference picture...
Thanks you for all the answer! This definitely expands all our options and makes me learn a lot :)
I will analyze all options and decide which is best for the case.

WOW! really?
I would check with my supplier. Thanks a lot for your answer.
Still, I'm curious to know if it can be done what I propose.(I'm not always going to find the specific coupling because of the location where we are manufacturing)

Hi!
hope you are doing well.
I was doing some research looking in the VIII asme code and b16.11 I couldn't find any clue to my answer.
I need to increase the length of a coupling because of thermal insulation in my vessel.
The first solution in my mind it is to weld a pipe 1" or 3/4" into the...
