Hi!
i have a subtle question about the nozzle weld and how it is tested.
how can you test the nozzle to shell weld when you have a reinforcement pad? that's the main question.
It can be done? test the nozzle to shell weld before welding the pad? or you have to test the nozzle-pad-shell system?
Why asking? Because if it tested the nozzle to shell weld before, it is ruled out a leak in this weld. In the other way if you detect any leak in the nozzle/pad/shell weld, it will have to remove more weld to perform a repair.
If you cannot performed this test, how can the nozzle to shell weld be tested before the reinforcement pad is attached?

I try to search any question related here, but i couldn't find.

I will appreciate any answer :)

Best Regards

L.

First, the repad is to be part of the nozzle construction, which is required to strengthen the nozzle opening. And then, a full tested pressure may be applied to test the welds of the nozzle and the repad as well.

1) Air pressure test the repad (1 bar)
2) Hydraulic pressure test the pressure vessel

leon_har_dt, if by "test" you include Non-Destructive Examination, then it is possible to hold the pad back from the shell-nozzle junction, complete this weld, then NDE it. Repair as needed. Fit and weld out the pad, further NDE as needed.

Pressure test the completed vessel as per r6155.

Mike

The problem with sloppy work is that the supply FAR EXCEEDS the demand

Thanks mk3223, r6155 and SnTMan
I now know what can i do to test this weld.

Regards.
