Hey abaqus professionals,
i have a question regarding reproducibility of results. I am conducting multicrack analyses in form of an indentation test (ABAQUS 2019) and most of them abort quite early due to convergence issues. A few weeks back a simulation managed to run through. I have the input...
Hey,
i'm coming from ABAQUS and im new to ANSYS, so i still lack some fundamentals. I am currently using the ACP and static mechanical modules to simulate a tensile Test of a Basic UD layer. In ACP Post after defining the failure criterion, ANSYS shows me where Elements have failed due to which...
Thank you for the answers so far and for the paper @iceBreakerSours
Maybe my question was unclear so i will try to rephrase: In principle i just want an initial stress state without any strains resulting from it. The background is the deposition process of a coating, during which thermal...
Hey, i am interested in applying an initial stress on a coating. I already tried using predefined field and the "initial condition, type Stress" options. I feel like these options didn't solve my problem properly, since i dont want the equilibrium to be calculated at the initial step. What i...
Hey guys, i have a question regarding crack analysis in ABAQUS.
I am using the CZM to initiate and propagate a crack in a coating. Recently i was playing around with partitions (vertical white lines) so that multiple crack can emerge sequentially. After having a closer look at the output file i...
@JAE thanks for the tip, it seems like someone moved my Topic already so thanks for that.
It actually worked now,i opened it with Abaqus 2019, i didnt know it was installed on the Server we use. We were Always told to use 2017. If i have a .psf file that i want to run, how can i control which...
Hey,
i am currently using a python script to generate and submit jobs. Whenever i try to open the .odb files though the error "... .odb is from a more recent release of ABAQUS" . That seems weird to me, since i am using python Version 2.7.2 and my ABAQUS Version runs with 2.7.3, so if anything...
Hey FEA Way,
the initiation criterion is quite low, yes. But i want the simulation to represent reality as closely as possible, so i dont think i can adjust it. The current problem for me is how to partition the coating. If i only use one XFEM enriched zone for the whole coating, only 1 crack...
Hey, i added a small enriched partition to the substrate underneath, i also made the indentor rigid. Unfortunately the same Problem exists:
I am using linear elements, could this be a possible reason? The problem is, that i cant start the analysis using a quadratic mesh, it immediately aborts...
Enrichment is only specified for the Coating so far. Thank your for the tip, in what way would adding XFEM to the substrate help ? It seems like cracks are already propagating through the coating.
Thank you i will read it.
Thanks for the tips, i already had tangential and normal behaviour defined in the contact property. I managed to get the simulation running with general contact (which in my understanding is just a surface to surface contact with finite sliding).
Unfortunately as you can see in my picture...
Hey,
i am currently using ABAQUS/CAE 2017 so it should be possible?
Yes, the scale factor is 1. Im wondering if there is another possibility to prevent this from happening. I tried a finer Mesh on the slave but unfortunately that also didnt help.
Hey, thanks for your answer.
Unfortunately i get the following error when using a General contact in the interface:
Is cohesive behaviour possible with a general contact assignment? Before i was using a node to Surface contact with finite sliding and a cohesive interaction property to model...
Dear Abaqus users,
i am simulating crack propagation of a coating in conjunction with an indentor test. I was a bit surprised by the crack representation when i saw, that cracked elements would penetrate the slave body. You can see it in the picture i uploaded (the cracked elements penetrate...
