New slab on grade on top of existing one.

Hi, There is an existing unreinforced slab on grade that has some light cracks. Expansion joints are spaced about 12 ft in both directions. A new slab on grade is planned to be placed on top of this existing one. We have two options in mind, but not sure which one would be the best. See attached...

    Filling holes from concrete cores

Some cores 3" (diameter) and 6" (length) have been taken (horizontally) from existing concrete columns. What would you recommend to fill the hole? Is there any recommended specification from ACI? Using an epoxy based primer to bond new and existing concrete is correct? Thanks for your advice...

API RP 2A - Pile Straightness

Hi OGMetEngr, And how would you interpret the following: API RP 2A 11.1.5.b Jacket and Deck Section Columns states: "The deviation from straightness of jacket columns should be less than 3/8 in. (10 mm). Such deviation should not be more than 1/8 in. (3 mm) in any 10 foot (3 m) increment of...

thickness to be used for modelling a corroded pipe

Thanks MikeHalloran and LittleInch for your quick input. This is a structural member 18"OD and 60ft long that is part of a 4-legged jacket platform. I should have said that my intent just was to model the member (not designing it) so that the variation of thickness will be represented in the...

thickness to be used for modelling a corroded pipe

I have a subsea inspection report where readings where taken at 0deg, 90deg, 180deg and 270deg (contained in one diameter of the pipe), at three different locations along a pipe, having a total of 12 readings. I would like to model this pipe, using a unique representative thickness for the whole...

blow count limit for offshore hammers

Hi, Do you know if there is a limitation for the max. BPF for offshore hammers?. Sometimes I have read 240 BPF and others 150 BPF. Is this a specification from the manufacturer of the hammer?. Thanks

    API 2H Gr 50 W/Supplements vs API 5L Gr X52

And, adding to the commentary by SJones, API 2H is specified at joint cans and it needs Through-Thickness properties to provide strenght in the Z direction. This is very important since punching shear loads from braces converge at joint cans. I suggest you read API RP 2A for more detail.

    Trapezoidal tank for oil storage

Thanks for your responses. A borizontal section of the tank is rectangular, but the vertical section is trapezoidal. See attached picture. As SnTMan says, App. 13 of ASME VIII does not cover this type of tank. I think using conventional structural methods (FEA, Roark's book, etc) and a design...

    Trapezoidal tank for oil storage

I would like to know if Appendix 13 of ASME VIII Div. 1 could be used for the structural design of this tank. The tank is aboveground and used for oil storage, hence subjected to hydrostatic pressure. I did a search for any related standard applicable to trapezoidal tanks but had no luck. Thanks.

    trapezoidal tank for oil storage

Is the design of these tanks governed by a specific standard?. API 650 is applicable to cylindrical tanks. Any reference will be of great help. Regards

    Controlled flooding system

Hi, I am in search of information about controlled flooding systems for upending of offshore platforms (design principles, materials, description of valves, etc. Any information could help. Thanks in advance.
