Trapezoidal tank for oil storage

I would like to know if Appendix 13 of ASME VIII Div. 1 could be used for the structural design of this tank. The tank is aboveground and used for oil storage, hence subjected to hydrostatic pressure.
I did a search for any related standard applicable to trapezoidal tanks but had no luck.
Thanks.

r2d22, strictly speaking Apx 13 would not apply to vessels of trapezoidal cross section. Additionally I don't think you'd like the way it came out:)

There are other, better ways to design atmospheric storage tanks, this has been discussed a number of times on the site. Might try a search on rectangular tanks and so forth.

Normally designed using structural formulas such as Roark, etc.

Mike

Check " Pressure vessel handbook" by Megyesy, page 215, has 7 pages talking about how to design rectangular tanks.

Thanks for your responses. A borizontal section of the tank is rectangular, but the vertical section is trapezoidal. See attached picture.
As SnTMan says, App. 13 of ASME VIII does not cover this type of tank. I think using conventional structural methods (FEA, Roark's book, etc) and a design standard like AISC, will be enough. Of course, corrosion allowance will be provided to plates and stiffeners.

Is this strange tank located on some sort of vehicle ?

If so "sloshing" effects must be considered.

It appears that there are two seperate compartments in you design.

If so, the interior partion wall should be designed for the full tank/empty tank condition for EACH SIDE.

Calibration of level devices will be fun.....
