Texas Non-Code State for PV? Does this vessel need a PSV?

I want to start this post by saying that I value safety, and I am not looking to cut any corners. The decision of not installing a PSV will only be made if it is safe to do so, and if permitted in my jurisdiction (Texas). I heard that Texas is a non-code state for pressure vessels before, but...

Flexible Tank Floor Affecting Agitator's Installation

Thanks for everyone who commented. I no longer need assistance with this issue. We are considering that the weight of the process will stabilize the tank bottom and added protection so the agitator cannot be operated when the tank is at a low level. This is a very low impact operation and we can...

Flexible Tank Floor Affecting Agitator's Installation

I agree that the design of this agitator could have been much better. And yes, the tank was constructed by a tank manufacturer with no knowledge that an agitator would be installed on this tank later. That's not their fault, they just did not have the information and the design was approved. At...

Flexible Tank Floor Affecting Agitator's Installation

At my site there is a new API 650 atmospheric storage tank (29' ID, 40' max liquid height). Steady bearing legs for an agitator need to be installed inside this tank (I don't know much about rotating equipment, so I don't know how these bearing legs work). The personnel working on the...

Exempt Hydraulic Oil Accumulator From API 510 Inspections

I second this. I have years of experience in my industry (chemical and petrochemical) and the inspection requirements that we have to follow have always been API510 for pressure vessels (together with API570 for process piping, and API653 for Atmospheric storage tanks). Anyways, this pressure...

Exempt Hydraulic Oil Accumulator From API 510 Inspections

@r6155 It is not a matter of what I think. I am asking the other users of this forum if there is any option for exempting this equipment from inspections that I am not aware of. The process for exempting a vessel from inspection is not willy-nilly, there are procedures to follow and forms to be...

Exempt Hydraulic Oil Accumulator From API 510 Inspections

No sir. Not in my industry. API 510 is and has been the Standard followed by every single facility I have dealt with for inspection requirements of pressure vessels. Link

Exempt Hydraulic Oil Accumulator From API 510 Inspections

OSHA does not define what is consider an integral part of rotating equipment. API 510 provides a few examples. From API 510 Annex A (Code Exemption): Pressure containers that are integral parts or components of rotating or reciprocating mechanical devices, such as pumps, compressors, turbines...

Exempt Hydraulic Oil Accumulator From API 510 Inspections

Hello there. This question is regarding the inclusion of an equipment to an inspection program per OSHA's PSM/Mechanical Integrity (29 CFR paragraph 1019.119(j)), considering the applicable RAGAGEP Codes and Standards. I have an 2.5 gallon (volume less than 1 cubic feet) hydraulic oil...

Are there Any Inspection Requirements for Ducts?

Are duct inspections part of any regulatory requirements (PSM, MI, API Codes, etc.)? I cannot find any information regarding ducting inspection requirements. I don't even know what design Code they follow (not B31.3 apparently). Any help with clarification is welcomed. Thanks!

When does the clock start on inspection and testing of relief devices?

Why should the relief devices be tested as part of the commissioning process? They have not been exposed to the process? The issue with the plugs left could happen even if they were sent to a testing facility and pop tested. That is just negligence/ignorance of the people installing them.

When does the clock start on inspection and testing of relief devices?

Hello, I am working on a brand new plant that will be commissioned next year. We will be installing PRDs in about 6 months. I was questioned if we need to pop test any of the PRDs prior to installing. I don't know how long each PRD have been in storage. Some of our PRDs will be on a 12 months...

    Handling and Transportation of PRDs

Hello, I need to develop handling and transportation guidance for Pressure Relief Devices. Does anyone have any material that you could share with me besides Section 5.9 of API 576? Anything on this subject will be greatly appreciated.

    Sealing Tank After Field Erection?

I guess the reason would be my lack of familiarity with these equipment. I don't know about breather vent. I will google them soon. If you have any info about them you can send me, it is very appreciated.

    Sealing Tank After Field Erection?

The tank has indeed design pressure of +69.20 in H2O (2.5 psig) / -8.31 in H2O (-0.3 psig). All documentation and calculations shows that. The tank is 20 ft diameter by 32 ft high. To anyone that gave the advise of using dry air, I don't see how that would prevent the tank from collapsing on...
